Karl Urban is one of the most productive actors working in action, sci-fi and fantasy franchises for the last decade. He is known for a myriad of important roles, including Éomer in the second and third installments of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and Star Trek: Beyond (2016), Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013), John "Reaper" Grimm in Doom (2005), Black Hat in Priest (2011) and Judge Dredd in the 2012 film Dredd. Most recently, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans will have taken note of his character, Skurge, the machine-gun wielding Asgardian who becomes Hela’s Executioner in Thor: Ragnarok (2017).
He’s won acclaim for his performances in New Zealand films The Price of Milk and Out of the Blue. Some will recall his humble beginnings on the syndicated TV series Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules, playing a young Caesar.
In 2013, he starred as John Kennex on the television series Almost Human. Next year, he will make a return to television, as Billy Butcher, in the Amazon series The Boys, based on the acclaimed comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
