John Barrowman is best known for his role as Captain Jack Harkness on the international sci-fi series Doctor Who and Torchwood, as well as Malcolm Meryl on the CTV series Arrow. He is an Entertainer with a capital E: singer, dancer, actor, presenter, and competition judge - he is a unique talent in the entertainment industry.
Born in Glasgow, where he spent his early years, John moved with his family to Illinois in the United States and later studied Musical Theatre at the US International University in San Diego. He spent a large part of his early career in UK musical theatre, starring in many West End shows.
His most famous television role is undoubtedly that of sci-fi hero Captain Jack Harkness, whose first appearance in the revamped Doctor Who created such an impact that he was given his own spin off series, Torchwood. Barrowman has also made a name for himself in American television dramas, playing Peter Williams in Titans, as Peter Fairchild in Central Park West, as Patrick Logan on Desperate Housewives, as well as a guest-starring role as a political fixer in Scandal. He can currently be seen as Malcolm Merlyn in The CW network's hit series Arrow, based on the Green Arrow comic books, which airs on CTV.
Barrowman has several solo album’s to his name, as well as several cast recordings from musical theatre, including Grease, Hair, Phantom of the Opera, and Anything Goes, to name but a few. His latest solo album, You Raise Me Up, has been funded by his fans through PledgeMusic's Direct to Fan platform and was released in June 2014, entering the UK charts at number 16. He has toured extensively to support his albums.
